Characters count grapheme clusters when supported, otherwise code points. Whitespace includes spaces, tabs, and line breaks. Lines include a final empty line. The destination’s own counter is authoritative.

One symbol can have several lengths
A family emoji can appear as one visible character while containing multiple Unicode code points and UTF-16 units. This counter shows separate measures so you can compare the one your destination actually enforces.
The main character figure counts grapheme clusters where Intl.Segmenter is available. Spaces and line breaks count too. “Without whitespace” excludes spaces, tabs, and line-break clusters.
Check hidden whitespace before cutting words
A copied line can end with spaces or a final newline that are easy to overlook. These affect the total even when the sentence looks unchanged. The without-whitespace metric excludes tabs and line breaks too.
Paste the final version into the receiving field before sending. Its limit might use a different measurement from this page’s visible-character limit.
Use a personal limit without guessing platform rules
For the text A😀, the visible count is two, the Unicode code-point count is two, UTF-16 needs three units, and UTF-8 needs five bytes. A service that counts UTF-16 may therefore disagree with a visible-character limit.
Set an optional limit to see remaining characters or the amount over the limit. This is your own planning limit, not a claim about a particular social network. Lines include the final empty line when the input ends with a line break. Technical encoding counts are available separately.

Does my optional limit truncate the text?
No. It reports the remaining count or excess without deleting characters.
Why does a joined emoji use several code points?
Some visible emoji are sequences joined together. Grapheme counting groups the sequence, while code-point and storage counts measure its parts.
